Overtime Calculator UAE

UAE overtime pay is 125% of your basic hourly wage for regular extra hours, rising to 150% for night work, rest days, and public holidays. Use the overtime calculator UAE above with your basic salary and overtime hours to see what you’re owed under Article 19 of Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021.

The Two Overtime Rates in UAE Overtime Calculator

Any work beyond the standard 8 hours a day or 48 hours a week counts as overtime, and the rate you’re owed depends on when you worked it:

  • 125% of your basic hourly wage for regular daytime overtime on a normal working day.
  • 150% of your basic hourly wage for hours worked between 10 PM and 4 AM, and for work on your weekly rest day or a public holiday. For rest days and public holidays specifically, your employer can offer a compensatory day off instead of the 150% pay.

How to Calculate Your Hourly Rate

Overtime is calculated on your basic salary only, the same salary component used for gratuity, with housing, transport, and other allowances excluded. Here’s the formula:

  1. 1
Divide your basic monthly salary by 30 to get your daily wage.
  2. 2
Divide your daily wage by 8 to get your basic hourly rate.
  3. 3
Multiply that hourly rate by 1.25 for regular overtime, or 1.5 for night, rest-day, or holiday overtime.
  4. 4
Multiply the result by the number of overtime hours worked.

Example of UAE Overtime Calculator

Say your basic salary is AED 6,000 a month, and you worked 10 hours of regular daytime overtime this month.

Worked example
StepCalculationResult
Daily wage6,000 ÷ 30AED 200
Hourly rate200 ÷ 8AED 25
Regular overtime rate25 × 1.25AED 31.25 per hour
Total for 10 hours AED 312.50

If those same 10 hours had been night, rest-day, or holiday overtime instead, the rate would be 25 × 1.5 = AED 37.50 per hour, for a total of AED 375.

Limits and Exemptions

Overtime is generally capped at 2 extra hours per day, and total working hours including overtime shouldn’t normally exceed 12 hours in a single day. Some roles are exempt from overtime pay entirely, including senior management and supervisory positions with genuine decision-making authority, and certain standalone on-site supervisory roles. Domestic workers are covered by a separate law, not these overtime provisions. During Ramadan, standard working hours reduce by 2 hours a day for everyone, which shifts when overtime starts counting.

Does Overtime Count Toward Your Gratuity?

No. Gratuity is calculated on basic salary only, without factoring in any overtime pay you’ve earned along the way. Working a lot of overtime doesn’t increase your eventual gratuity payout, since the two are calculated independently under different provisions of the law. If you’re checking your full exit payout rather than just overtime, see our final settlement guide for everything that’s included.
